Oakland Steiner School is pleased to announce we are seeking class teachers for our growing, suburban school. The school is fully accredited by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America and the Waldorf Early Childhood Association of North America.
Oakland Steiner is an independent, non-religious school in Rochester Hills, providing a rich education to children in Pre-K through 8th grade. We are dedicated to educating the whole child through developmentally appropriate academic, social, and artistic approaches. The learning environment is gently supportive, inspirational, and disciplined. Teachers are deeply valued members of the school community and bring an entrepreneurial spirit to administrative and pedagogical work.
The class teacher will loop with the class for several years, so must be comfortable with multi-age learning and meeting a range of physical, emotional, social, and academic needs in the early grades years. The teacher plans lessons in three or four week blocks, which integrate multiple subject areas as well as movement and arts, to meet the particular needs of the class. The Waldorf curriculum requires an energetic, motivated, focused person who is self-directed to make use of the materials, mentoring, and training available. The school is committed to supporting our faculty through a strong mentoring and professional development program.
--At least three years of classroom teaching experience.
--Waldorf teaching certification or plan for completion of Waldorf teacher certification
--Experience building strong, positive relationships with parents and families.
--Demonstrated ability to collaborate meaningfully with colleagues and contribute to a joyful work environment.
--Knowledge of progressive learning approaches.
--Strong desire for life-long personal and professional development.
--Willingness to become a valued part of the school community.
--Solid knowledge of Waldorf (or Steiner) philosophy of education.
--Abilities with watercolor painting, wind instrument, singing, dancing, or handcrafts are a plus.
