Wednesday February 1: A generous portion of garlic bread baked with cheese, oven roasted broccoli and salad. Served with a side of tomato sauce. Vegetarian. $5

Thursday February 2: French Toast! Traditional french toast served with fresh fruit and pure maple syrup. Vegetarian. $5. Add Peacock Farms breakfast sausage for $1. Add apple cider for $1.

Barbara Patterson joins us once again to explain her role as an Educational Support Teacher.

The Educational Support Program at Oakland Steiner School provides exercises in movement, drawing and painting. These exercises are designed to help students with challenges in classroom activities that may include writing, reading and arithmetic.

We receive referrals for an assessment from the class teachers, and occasionally from parents, who are then asked to describe the challenges the student presents with academic skills, fine or gross motor movements and / or social interactions with peers.

As a result of the assessment, a program of individual exercises is developed based on the Extra Lesson approach and other related sources.  These exercises help children experience the normal movement and sensory development that they would have gone through in early childhood but had not fully experienced.  This foundational work helps strengthen the student’s capacities for academic work.

An age appropriate assessment is given to the children in the Kindergarten who are candidates to go on to first grade in the Fall, as part of their First Grade Readiness profile. In the Spring of the second grade year, another developmental assessment is given. The results of these assessments are shared with the class teachers.

It will be held Friday, February 3rd from 3:00pm – 6:30pm. Pre-orders are due Tuesday January 31. There are several options available:

• BBQ Rib Dinner: 1/3 slab baby back ribs, baked beans, cole slaw, and corn bread. $15
• BBQ Chicken Dinner: 1 Dark, 1 White, or 3 Dark pieces, baked beans, cole slaw, and corn bread. $12
• Vegetarian: Mac n cheese, baked beans, cole slaw, and corn bread. $8

Meals are available as dine in or take out. Order pick up from 3:00pm to 6:30pm. Dine in is from 3:00pm to 6:30pm in the school gym.

Sweet tea will be available for purchase for dine in only at $1.00

Their gifts have helped these organizations raise millions of dollars, increase their visibility and mobilize thousands of supporters.

For their 10 year anniversary, they have decided to gift 10 worthy 501©3 charities each with $100,000 in pro bono marketing support and service to help them spread their messages, raise funds and mobilize supporters.

Starting on Monday, January 2, 2012 the nominated organizations will be posted and the public will be invited to vote on their top 10 organizations. Voting lasts until January 23, 2012. The 10 organizations with the most votes will each be the recipient of $100,000 in pro bono marketing, public relations and social media services. Winning organizations will begin being contacted on Thursday, January 24, 2012.

Friday December 9: Breakfast for lunch is back! Buttermilk pancakes are served with fruit and Michigan maple syrup. $5 for pancakes and fruit. Add sausage for $1. Add a cup of cider for $1.

The 2011 Holiday Bazaar is almost here (Saturday November 19, 2011 from 10:00am to 4:00pm).

Guests: We hope that you can join us. Tell your friends! This is an event that has something for everyone. There are Michigan-based artisan vendors selling everything from handcrafted jewelry and clothing items, photographs, turned wood carvings, food, books, toys and more. For the kids we have Children’s Workshops to wind a jump rope, decorate a candle, make a yo-yo, and more. And let’s not forget the ever popular Cake Walk! Plus there is the wonderful bake sale, yummy food in the Steiner Cafe, and the handmade waffles.

Parents: Make sure that you sign up for a volunteer shift, make a baked good, bring in a requested item, and more. There sign up sheets are located on the Holiday Bazaar board across from the main office. The Fishbowl Raffle is still looking for items. They need to be dropped off to the school office by Wednesday.
