What's for lunch?
Greetings from the kitchen,
Here we are again, having made another trip around the sun, falling into the bounty of autumn. I am looking forward to returning to the kitchen here at Oakland Steiner
School. While the kitchen at Oakland Steiner School was quiet this summer, my home
kitchen was all fired up! There seemed to be culinary inspirations everywhere I looked. Everywhere from farmer’s markets, to taco stands in Northern Michigan, to sharing meals with friends and family. My heart is full and my hands are ready.
Many of you know me as Gabriel’s mom, Mr. Smith’s wife (aka Mrs. Smith) or the hot
lunch lady. These are all fine, but I also go by Karyn. After going through the Waldorf
teacher training program, working in the children’s center as an assistant, having a child of my own, starting a home nursery, teaching parent and child classes-I came to discover that where I really wanted to be was in the kitchen! I love food. And even more than loving food, I love to serve food - dinner parties, brunches, coffees, creative fun snacks for Gabriel and his friends.... really anyone who can eat. I love preparing seasonal, local food using cooking styles and traditions from all over the world. This has all led and directed me right into the Oakland Steiner School kitchen. This will be the forth year of preparing lunches here at the school. The students were all so sweet last year. It was really such a joy to see them each day. I am really looking forward to coming back.
This year, I will begin serving lunches two days per week. I intend to add on a day or two as we get more settled into the school year. Just as last year, order forms will be in the family mailboxes the week before the lunches are served. Please have your order form and payment in by Friday each week. This is absolutely crucial for organization.
All food will come from the best sources available. Meat and eggs are always hormone and antibiotic free. Vegetables, fruits and grains are organic whenever possible. I am a very conscious shopper. I get as many local ingredients as I can and everything is always cooked with LOVE! Stop in the kitchen to say “hello”! I am happy to answer any questions you may have. AND, I always accept chocolate!
Bon appetit!
Karyn
For your convenience, an order form for you to print will be posted on the home page when available
