Oakland Steiner School Hot Lunch Program
We recognize the importance of nourishing not only our student’s minds but also their growing bodies. We serve meals prepared fresh daily using mostly organic ingredients focusing on local, biodynamic and natural foods. We strive to provide both cultural variety and seasonal abundance in our daily selections, with options that take into consideration the diversity of our students, faculty and staff.
Food is prepared onsite daily by Chef Zach Lang, of Zach's Pure Foods Kitchen, and assisted by Chef Cassandra Yankee. Zach comes to us with a strong understanding of organic and healthy food, and has over 12 years working in food preparation and cooking. This includes over six years of experience as a professional chef and healthy meal planner with a nationally renowned nutritionist. Zach's specialty is in cooking healthy, healing foods. Cassandra is a professional chef and nutrition consultant specializing in vegan, grain free, raw cuisine as well as food education. Having worked in some of Southeast Michigan’s most renowned vegetarian restaurants, she has developed a unique skill set for creating delicious medicinal food. Cassandra's interests are autoimmune disease, oncology nutrition, and fermentation.
The student lunches are nutritious and flavorful. The experience becomes part of their understanding of what real food should taste like. They begin to learn the importance of supporting a way of eating that nurtures and sustains themselves and the environment in a conscious manner. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and paleo options are often available. Our goal is to provide our students with fresh, nutritious food and support healthy eating habits.
Our chefs provide a hot lunch option five days a week, and also offer carry-out meals and Grab & Go items daily. Grab and Go items can be found in the refrigerator near the kitchen.
Please turn in payment in the school hot lunch payment basket in the hallway near the kitchen or use the PayPal option offered at the bottom of the order form. 2015-16 hot lunch pricing is $6.00 for regular and vegetarian lunches, and $6.50 for gluten free, dairy free and paleo lunches. Additional helpings of hot lunch are included for all children that have ordered.

Monday: Chicken Strips, Potato Wedges, Tomato Catsup
Tuesday: Lentil tacos on corn tortillas with all the fixins
Wednesday: Pancakes, Maple Syrup, Oranges
Thursday: Chicken Ceasar Salad
