OSS SKI CLUB

Picture

It is time for SKI CLUB!!!

Ski Club has officially begun!  Friday December 14th was sunny, 47 degrees, and the snow conditions at Pine Knob were beautiful.  They keep the trails snow-covered and groomed quite effectively as long as nighttime temps fall below freezing.  We’ll meet almost every Friday from now into March.  Often kids carpool right after school and parents pack a picnic supper and join us later in the evening (they allow food from home).  We start at 4 and stay till 11 (but the discounted lift tickets must be purchased by 8).  Come once, once-in-a-while, or every week.  Rental equipment is available at discounted ski club rates.  Hint: with the lessons included in the one-time club price, the short beginners usually do very well because of their low centers of gravity, have a great time in the fresh air, get great exercise, and can make it home by regular bedtime.  This is not an official school-sponsored event; it’s a group mostly made up of members of the OSS community.  Permission slips are required for any kids participating whose parents are not on-site.

Let’s bookend our break.  It’s great fun to share the excitement of the first night of break with your friends.  Come out on Dec 21st, and then again on Jan 4th (there are no clubs on Dec 28th) as our break winds down, do it again and share all the stuff you did over the holidays.

Bring your friends.  In addition to the extended OSS family including past families and alumni, our Ski Club is open to members’ friends & family as well.  We love to meet new folks, and we’re a pretty lovable bunch ourselves.

So here are some of the Details:

Who:       All Oakland Steiner students, alumni, family and friends are welcome to join!

Where:  Pine Knob Ski Resort in Clarkston 248/625-0800

* We gather in the far lounge opposite the cafeteria, usually in front of the fireplace!*

Pack a lunch! Pine Knob allows our group to bring in our own food and drinks as long as it is NOT  commercially bought!

When:    Friday nights starting at 4 pm till 11 pm!  (Lift tickets are available for purchase 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.)

The general rule is if Pine Knob is open, we will be skiing!  You can go to www.skipineknob.com to confirm they are open each Friday.

Costs:      One time membership pass........................................................... $ 18.00

(student passes come with either two free ski lessons or one snowboarding lesson, so it is not necessary for a parent to join or ski in order for the student to participate in ski club)

Evening session lift ticket.............................................................. $ 18.00

Ski or Snowboard rental................................................................. $ 18.00

                  Helmet rental................................................................................ $ 10.00

To Join:  Simply come on up to Pine Knob this Friday or any one there after (except Dec 28th).
