Oakland Steiner School Scrip Program
Have you heard about the OSS Scrip Program?
This is a simple and effective fundraising program that we can do without spending a single penny and without selling anything!
What Is Scrip?
Scrip is a term that means “substitute money”. When you purchase scrip, you’re purchasing gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use scrip to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase, you earn revenue for our school.
How scrip generates money for the school
The Great Lakes Scrip Center (GLSC) acts on behalf of churches, schools and other non profit organizations to purchase large amounts of scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. Our organization buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours for full face value. The discount from two to fifteen percent or more – is our schools’ revenue. And scrip is exciting, because everybody wins:
- The retailer gets cash up front and repeat business…
- You get a powerful fundraising alternative that involves no selling…
- Our school gets a regular source of revenue.
The beauty of scrip is that you generate money for the school by making purchases you would make anyway. Just spend your regular shopping dollars with scrip at the stores that participate in the scrip program. Scrip can be used for just about any household purchase including food, clothing, entertainment, gifts, gasoline and even dining out.
For example, an organization of 150 families can spend between one and two million dollars per year on food, clothing and other essentials. If these families use scrip for these purchases, they can raise as much as $40,000 to $80,000 per year for their organization.
If just 10 OSS families spend $100 on gas per month using the Marathon scrip (3%) that will generate $30 in revenue for the school per month or $360 per year.
